Some new info for 'Odyssey'. hide:67154efd46- Despite the teaser/trailer, the Justice League (or really Green Arrow) finds Clark early on. The rest of the episode is about something else.
Clark already starts embracing his destiny in this episode. He puts himself in harms way throughout the episode. Big Smallville Scoop from Erica Durance: Part 1 The time is now for Smallville to take the Superman mythos to the next level by teaming Clark and Lois at the 'Daily Planet.'
With the CW series' season premiere a week away, TVGuide.com sought to squeeze some 'scoop' out of Ms. Lane herself, Erica Durance. Here in Part 1, the actress updates us on her episode count, braces for the critical storyline laid before her and, yes, reveals the last thing I expected to hear her say. — Matt Mitovich TVGuide.com: First things first: How many episodes do we have you for this season? Erica Durance: All I know is I'm doing more than my 13, but they won't tell me how many yet. TVGuide.com: Those sneaks.
Don’t they know you have bills to pay? Shoes to buy? Durance: It is sneaky, right?!
TVGuide.com: Now that we're doing Lois and Clark at the 'Daily Planet,' do you feel as if, more than ever, all eyes are on you? Durance: I would go crazy if I felt deeply that way. I would go insane! But what I do feel, because we're moving more towards that mythos, is that I have a lot more to do in each episode. I'm more involved, Lois is finding herself more, and she definitely is becoming that journalist that everyone loves. She's brushing shoulders with Clark a lot, so we have a lot of fun interplay.
She'll go to investigate something, thinking that she's the one solving the problem, and meanwhile he's speeding around saving her a lot. It's quite funny.
TVGuide.com: Lois has taken some knocks for 'sleeping her way' into the job and what not. Durance: That's what I hear, yes. But in this season they've given her some great material and great intelligence. You'll see that she definitely didn't sleep her way into the job.
TVGuide.com: Obviously it's a very important turn that the show is taking. Have you and Tom Welling sat down to discuss how you're going to approach it? Durance: The way it works, and it happened when I first came to the show, is you come together with your cast members and the producers and go over the flavor of what's happening with your story. And every year, I'm on the periphery, but I grow a little bit.
When this year came around and it became clear where they wanted to take things, yeah, it was discussed. We take it very seriously, to make sure that we're doing it justice and making these characters lovable. The big flag I'm waving all the time is to make sure that Lois is intelligent and fun and lovable so that the audience will like the fact that Clark likes her, instead of going. TVGuide.com: 'She's not worthy! She's not worthy!' Durance: Right.
So we're making a special effort this year, even with the small nuances, to be truthful to the Superman mythos. TVGuide.com: At the 'Daily Planet,' will we see Lois and Clark more as partners or as rivals? Durance: You get a little bit of both. That’s what's been fun about the relationship, these moments where they're going head-to-head and then pull together when they have to, when the stakes are really high. Those moments where one of them goes, 'You know what, you did do a good job.' And the writers have been really good this year dropping little bombs of, 'Oh my god, do they really love each other? Does she really love him?'
There's a lot of that. TVGuide.com: I had the opportunity to break the news about the kiss coming up in Episode 5, 'Committed.' How would you describe the heat-level of the lip lock? Well that never actually happened. TVGuide.com: No!!!
Durance: There's no kiss. I'm sorry to tell you that!
In our final shooting script, that was not part of it. In a side conversation, a CW publicist confirms that the kiss did in fact exist in an early draft of 'Committed.'
But there are some things that actually come out in that script that are really, really lovely. They get into a lot of trouble, and Lois has to admit feelings that she has for Clark, deep down, in front of him. Sighs I know this interview isn’t going as planned, but I can tell you that when there is a kiss, it will be hot!
Laughs TVGuide.com: OK. What about talk that Clark will offer Lois a place to stay at the Kent farm? Durance: Yes. Yes, he does offer her a place to stay, and she's avoiding the issue right now.
There's a lot of things that happen in the scenes I'm doing where you definitely see that she is in love with Clark. She's doesn’t want him to know, but she does realize her real feelings for him.
She just doesn’t know what to do with them. And they're going to build on that. But we're only on Episode 5, so I don’t know what's in the great future. Next week, in Part 2: Erica Durance reveals what's new and improved with Clark Kent, teases the 'heartache' that comes with Lana's return, and raves about the 'sexy' Allison Mack.
Director's cut de Odyssey Smallville: Erica Durance on Being Lois Lane The actress talks about Lois and Clark's close new situation in Season 8. September 12, 2008 - Erica Durance has played Lois Lane on Smallville since the fourth season, but because the show was focusing on a younger Clark Kent - in high school still when Lois was introduced - so far the producers had avoided creating too much of the classic Lois and Clark scenarios. Things are beginning to change though in Season 8 of Smallville, debuting Thursday night. Clark now works at the Daily Planet alongside Lois, bringing their characters closer than ever. During my recent visit to the Smallville set, I sat down and chatted with Durance about her character and how Lois is continuing to evolve.
IGN: Your character has slowly but surely gotten more important as the series has progressed. Durance: This is now my fifth season. It's gone by really quickly. But I was able to kind of learn as I went with finding the character. She was in little snippets here and there. But as the years have gone by, now we're in our eighth season and a couple of the cast members are not in and some are not full time, so the dynamic is slightly different and therefore I'm actually getting to step up and do more and be more involved.
It's going a little bit more towards the Superman mythos, which is really fun. This year has a lot of new surprises and I think the fans will really like where it's headed. IGN: This year, you have more of the classic dynamic of Lois, Clark and Jimmy at the Daily Planet. Is it fun to get to play out such an iconic scenario? Durance: It's really fun and I've always been a kid at heart.
Some would say I don't play the kind of cool actress – 'Oh yeah, I'm so above this.' I see a part of the script that's going to bring it into that mythos and I get really excited. Like I fix up Clark's outfit and change him – I don't physically change him; that would have been a whole other thing. Laughs That would have taken me a few days!
But that was one of the little things. They're starting to bring Clark into the Planet and he's going to be working there and we have desks that are facing each other.
So there's all sorts of fun, tantalizing little scenes that we have there. For example, she sees herself as very mature and his mentor and she just kind of guides him through, whether it's on the intellect of how to write a story or how to scoop out a story, or it's just his physical appearance. He comes in and looks like a country bumpkin. She gets him all changed up and suddenly he looks like the Clark Kent in the mythos. It's pretty fun. So I see little things like that and I get very excited about it.
IGN: You seem to also have more of an opportunity to build what we know is going to be the great love story of Lois and Clark. Before now, they have never been this close on a day to day basis.
Are you trying to throw in even more hints of a potential attraction now? Durance: Yeah, it's been a tricky little journey, because of the way you have to work hand in hand with the writers on what's been allowed to happen, as far as even licensing and that sort of thing. It's a whole new can of worms.
But throughout the years, we've had these little moments and that sort of thing to weed through. But this year, we're actually having more screen time to do that. So they get thrown into these different situations where you see Lois really has to be honest with herself and confront how she really feels about this person. Maybe she feels more than she's ever wanted to admit, and it's just one of those things that you want to push down through sheer will. But it's bubbling to the surface for her.
And just that whole trick of how does she kind of hide that from him, because she wants to protect herself. They get into a whole lot of trouble, trying to scoop out the stories. It's the classic wink-wink, nudge-nudge. It's been like that through the whole mythos.
She thinks she's doing it all and she's saving herself, but he has to just be very patient with her, as he goes around and actually saves people. And then she's like, 'Where did you go off to? Because I had to fix everything and do everything, once again, because you always take off!' So there's a lot of that fun stuff to play with.
And I love that Lois is really getting to delve into the journalism and show her intellect. I love that my character has had all sorts of sides to her – the absurd, the funny, bringing in a little bit of sexiness. I love that it shows a female can be really well rounded and she can laugh at herself. That's one of the things I love about playing her as a character – me as a person, I've learned that it's okay that you're not perfect. And the way the write her is, 'Yeah, so what, I messed up!
Deal with it. And she sucks it up and moves on. I am a perfectionist to the hilt, so I've learned something from that. IGN: Oliver Queen is back in town this season. Is there some unresolved issues between he and Lois that need to be worked out?
Durance: What they've done, which I think is really great, is they've done a good service to the relationship that she had. This was her first, I think, real relationship where she allowed herself to be honest and to fall in love and it just didn't work out. So this year, when they do come in contact, it's like any relationship I think when you have all these feelings come up and you don't know how to explain them and they're not right and they're not the right timing.
So we do have a specific episode where she really has to go in and save him and help him and deal with all that kind of leftover feeling that comes up that she knows should be over. But that's part of being human and that's what I like about her – she's very human. IGN: Can you talk about Lois's interaction with some of the new characters, like Tess, Davis and Maxima? Durance: They've done a really great job and hopefully during the season they're able to bring in even more characters that people recognize from the comics. We have the CEO of Luthorcorp coming in, Tess Mercer. I've had a little bit to do with her.
And of course we go head to head – Lois really doesn't get on with people right away. She kind of knocks heads with her, which is always fun for me to play that kind of thing. And Davis, I don't have much to do with yet, but within the other characters, I think the audience will be very excited to see where they're going with that and watch him evolve in the different characters lives and as he gets closer to the other characters. The Maxima character I had some direct contact with. It was a wonderful episode. She comes in, she sets her eyes on Clark and goes after Clark.
And as the situation goes, Lois ends up finding them in a rather compromising position and has to deal with how she feels about it. But Lois doesn't do anything quietly, so she's not going to be all wounded. She kind of waltzes off and then Maxima gets in there and decides to hate Lois and she gets herself in a very bad situation.
It's all this kind of strange, embarrassing kind of stuff that she has to go back and face Clark with. That's been fun to play, but it's been tricky. IGN: Has there been a transition this season, with former showrunners Al Gough and Miles Millar having left? Durance: Yeah, there is that change of the guard feeling.
Those men created this show and they've been there since the beginning and so when they do the switch over, you do feel it a little bit up here for sure. But the folks that are executive producing it now have worked with them for years and have been writers. I think that there's nobody better to come into that position of making those decisions then people who have been writing it for years, because they know these characters inside out. It's been really good.
IGN: It seems most of the characters get a chance to have superpowers on this show. I'm trying to remember if Lois has Durance: Lois has not yet, but I do hear down the rumor mill that she will get her chance this year, and I very much look forward to that. So apparently, Lois gets to step into those boots.
Even if you think of Lois and then you give her superpowers, it's going to be mayhem, I think. Laughs It's going to be crazy, you know? But I really look forward to doing that and trying to play a character that's slightly possessed by something is going to be fun. IGN: What power would you like her to get? Durance: I'd like to throw people. I really want to be able to throw people around.
I think that would be fantastic. The reason I like the whole throwing thing is because there's all the wires involve and all that kind of stuff, and you just look so awesome. You look so incredible! IGN: Do you know more about Superman comics than you ever imagined now? Durance: Yeah, and I'm still learning. I'll still go to conventions and that sort of thing and I'm the first one to admit, 'Hey, you know a lot more than me, so if you have something you want to share, please let me know.' Because certainly I enjoyed Superman as a child, but I didn't know of the characters that come in and which ones are part of the comics and which ones aren't, so it's been fun to figure all that out.
IGN: Lois is such a famous character. Do you still have moments where you think, 'Wow, I'm playing Lois Lane!' Durance: Yeah, I have moments where I have a little smile to myself. I'm very grateful to be doing that, because that's the female character that I always liked, because of her strength and independence and that she didn't see herself as a victim. So to be able to actually do that, yeah, I get a kick out of it, for sure.

'Odyssey' Preview Clip Screen Caps: Canadian Trailer for Odyssey SAM WITWER Q. What are some of the recent projects that you've been working on? Right now I'm working on 'Smallville,' I'm playing a character named Davis Bloom who is destined to become Dooms Day, the only DC comic book character to kill Superman.
Also coming out on the16th is a video game called Force Unleashed in which I play the character of Darth Vader's secret apprentice who has this epic journey and ends up impacting events in the Star Wars universe three and four. What can you tell us is new this season on 'Smallville' and about your character Davis? They have some really interesting, fun stuff planned. Davis Bloom is this Metropolis paramedic who is this really, really nice guy. He's a little bit moody because he's this perpetual outsider who was raised in the foster care system and was bounced from home to home. He's a really good guy and he can be a little bit moody and not terribly talkative at times but a very, very cool person. Chloe sort of recognizes that this is someone of her interest and they strike up a fast friendship.
The problem is that Davis is having these blackouts and as they happen more and more frequently he becomes curious about what is happening during these blackout periods. He tries to figure out and unravel this mystery and what he finds out is really not so great. What's fun about that whole storyline is pretty much the how, it's not nearly as straight forward as that, we're going to be having a lot of fun with that. When I say fun, hopefully fun for the audience, not as much fun for the character Davis Bloom. What would it be like for you found out you were the exact opposite of everything you ever tried to be in life. Basically the fun, if you could use that word, is to create this character and as we get to know him slowly take him apart and drag him through the mud a little bit. Certainly the fun of it as an actor is the challenge.
The word fun will enter into it as we get into the darker aspects which are psychologically draining as an actor. It's cool that we get to play both extremes with this character. What made you want to be a part of the show? I'm not sure what the 'Smallville' producers saw that led them to believe that I was the guy for the role, but they approached me for the part. They called me in and told me the story about this character and I was really intrigued by that.
They basically just offered it to me. What made me want to do it was the fact that the story that they told about this character and the character itself was really interesting.
Furthermore, I thought it would be very difficult to do and that's why I wanted to do it. Was anything about the role challenging for you?
Everything, the fact that he covers so much ground psychologically. Everyone is saying, 'Oh, he's the new villain,' and that's not entirely accurate if you watch what we're doing with it. That's not really accurate at all at first. I mean, there will be aspects that resemble what comic book fans are expecting from the Dooms Day character. Like all characters in 'Smallville,' there is a lot more to it than that. We're not trashing the history that came before it, we're not trashing the back story of Dooms Day that was added before. We're sort of adding to it and interpreting it and DC comics has given us its blessing in doing so.
The challenge really is just creating as layered a human being as I can and like I said, taking apart piece by piece and trying to do that realistically. For example, one of the things that I keep trying to remind myself and remind everyone is that this character is not part of this Smallville world. He doesn't know about superheroes, he doesn't know about people who are infected with meteor powers, this is all new to him. That's also part of the fun, that this character who looks at all this stuff with a bit of skepticism, he doesn't quite believe in it all, is actually one of the most involved in that phenomena as anyone on the show. Where do you draw from for your portrayal of Davis? I think like any actor you just kind of go with your experience, really more than that, when it come to anything to do with Sci-Fi or a fantasy piece or even historical drama, you need to exercise your imagination to a large extent. You need to honestly ask yourself, 'What would it be like if it was really happening?'
![Ugly Betty 4 Temporada Legendado Meaning Ugly Betty 4 Temporada Legendado Meaning](https://s2-ssl.dmcdn.net/DwLfx/526x297-4f8.jpg)
If it was really happening, not just we've seen it a million times on television and seen it a million times in movies so it kind of goes like this. That's not good enough, you're not earning your paycheck if you're thinking like that. You need to challenge yourself to go as far as you would go were it actually to happen to you.
When it comes to things like the stuff that happens on 'Smallville,' these are extreme circumstances. These are circumstances that no one, that we know of, has ever really faced in their lifetime. As an actor, it's your job to parse that for the viewing audience who live in reality. It's about giving as much reality to a fantastical situation as possible. That requires a lot of imagination and in a lot of cases it requires some mix of faith because in theory if you're dealing with something that extreme, for example if you were to find out that you had superpowers or something, the emotional reaction might be quite extreme. It might be bigger than anything that you might imagine. Finding out that you have superpowers should be a bigger deal than finding out you're really good at playing basketball, or something like that.
It's all about pushing the boundaries of what you think is possible as an actor, if you care to earn your paycheck as far as I am concerned. Davis does eventually become Dooms Day, did you have any reservation about taking on such a well known comic book character? Yeah, some, comic book fans, Sci-Fi fans, these are people who have a very specific taste and then there are always the vocal ones that don't like what you do no matter what. I feel like I am prepared for that and I've done enough work in that entire arena to be prepared for whatever may come as a result. I'm here to do as I am told, I am here to do as good a job as I can and interpret as well as I can.
Hopefully people like it, I'd love it if people liked it. Do you have a really memorable moment from filming the show?
I don't know if you would call this memorable or not, but I really enjoy working with Allison Mack, she's a sweetheart. The more that I work with her, the more that I realize that she is the perfect gateway for this character into the world of 'Smallville' because her character is such a lovable, kind person. If that character said, 'Hey, Davis Bloom is okay,' that gives me a real leg up as an actor trying to create a character for a show. She has such a well deserved following in terms of presence on the show that if her character declares that someone is good and worthy of attention, that means there very well could be audience members that listen to that. I think that's a good thing and aside from all of that, Allison is a wonderful actress and she's just really fun to work with. She's a great person and I am glad I was sort of paired up with her early. Why do you think people continue to tune into the show?
A friend of mine said about 'Smallville,' this is before I was aware of the show, he said when you're telling a joke and the person hearing the joke already knows the punch line, the only thing you can do is tell the joke really, really well. That's maybe why people watch 'Smallville,' we all know the punch line, we all know he's going to tear open his shirt, and there is going to be a big red S on a suit that he's going to be wearing underneath, and he'll be ready to take off into the sky and be Superman. The joy of it is in finding out every little detail that got him to that point. I feel as long as 'Smallville' continues to do that and I'm sure people will be interested to learn the how rather than just the what.
Where can those interested go online to learn more about you? There is a website that I have that promotes my music and that's www.samwitwer.com, it requires some update but there is some fun stuff there. You can also go to www.myspace.com/thecrashtones. That would be the closest thing to a Myspace page that I have. It promotes my music and my band and my band is a bunch of people who work in the industry who when time frees up we get together and play some shows. For example, one of my band members is Glenn Howerton from 'It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia.' Another one of my band members is a guy named Brian Taylor who wrote Crank and is doing Crank 2 right now.
We get together and we jam out and we put together some pretty weird stuff. No matter what music you're into, there is something that I've recorded that you'd be okay with. Would you be okay with most of the stuff I've recorded, it's hard to say. Some of it is pretty experimental, some of it is out there.
Some of it you could show your parents though.
